The Mindset Behind Sticking to Your Workout

The Mindset Behind Sticking to Your Workout

Getting in shape is a goal for many but is hard to stick to without the right mindset in place. Ready to crush your workouts and stick with it? Use these tips to stay motivated and reimagine what's possible for your fitness journey.

Redefine the Concept of Exercise

Getting into a successful mindset for exercise starts with redefining what it is. If you believe you can only succeed with long workouts at 5 a.m. that incorporate heavy lifting and intense cardio, you're unlikely to stick with it. Instead, adopt a mindset that exercise is about moving your body, staying fit, and being consistent. You can work your way up to an intense workout if that's your goal, but you can also make your focus all about consistency.

Set Realistic Goals

Trying to commit to hours in the gym probably isn't realistic to your daily fitness goals. Deciding you want to double your weight lifting or drop 20-pounds in a month isn't practical and sets you up to fail. Instead, make your goal about incrementally increasing the duration of your workout or adding an extra session into your week. The momentum of succeeding as you hit those smaller goals also keeps you striving for more.

Tie Working out to an Existing Habit

If you're struggling to make working out a habit, tie it to an existing one you do every day. For example, walk your dog and then immediately start your workout as soon as you get home. Or place your workout clothes next to your alarm and get dressed immediately after turning it off. The more you can stack your workout habit with an existing one, the more likely you will stick with it for good.

Vary Your Workouts

Doing the same workout day after day quickly leads to burnout and boredom. Mix up your routine or get out of the gym altogether. Go for a jog, take your workout to the great outdoors, or grab a colorful selection of fabric resistance bands.

Movéo's resistance bands are a challenging way to exercise without the need for weights. We carry a variety of themes and fun colors to keep you motivated. Check them out here.

Grab an Accountability Buddy

Working out with someone gives you a chance to catch up but also increases your odds of success. Studies show that 95% of those who started a weight-loss program with friends completed the program, compared to a 76% completion rate for those who tackled the program alone. If you don't have someone to commit to your new workout mindset with you, tap a personal trainer or join a fitness class that gives you the accountability you're looking for.

Success in your fitness journey doesn't have to be complicated. Focus on consistency, commitment, and having fun during your next workout to reach the success you want.

Keeping moving,
